Imaging Specialties

Our radiologists’ specialization and experience puts us head and shoulders above other area options.

Body Imaging
Body Imaging radiologists use ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate organs of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. They play an integral role in the evaluation of a wide variety of conditions, including trauma, cancer, and inflammatory processes such as pneumonia or appendicitis. In addition, they are frequently called on to perform image-guided biopsies of the lungs, lymph nodes, and abdominal organs.
Musculoskeletal Radiology
Musculoskeletal Radiologists diagnose disorders of bone, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the spine, using radiographs (X-rays), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition, they sometimes perform diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures, including arthrograms, joint injections and aspirations, and spinal injections.
Neuroradiology
Neuroradiology is a complex subspecialty that relies heavily on both technical expertise and sophisticated subspecialty training. Diagnostic neuroradiologists use computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose disorders of the brain, face, skull base, neck and spine. In addition, they sometimes perform diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures, including myelograms and spinal injections.
Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology is a highly specialized discipline that combines imaging with minimally invasive techniques to help treat a wide variety of disorders, including peripheral vascular disease, cancer of the liver, liver failure, and many others. “Minimally invasive” means that most of the procedures performed involve very tiny incisions that don’t require stitches and have quick recovery times.
Breast Imaging
Breast imaging radiologists are clinical experts who work as a team to use best practices for early detection of breast cancer. Our breast imaging radiologists do as much to prevent breast cancer as they do to treat it and are a vital part of any women’s complete breast health. We work hand in hand on a daily basis with breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, OBGYNs, family practitioners, and more. They utilize a variety of procedures, depending on a patient’s needs.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical subspecialty utilizing imaging guidance to perform minimally invasive, targeted treatments, often as an alternative to open surgery. IR procedures are often performed on an outpatient basis, and require short recovery times. These procedures are often less risky and less painful than traditional, surgery-based treatment options. Because many IR procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, they are often less costly due to brief or no patient hospital stays.

WCRA interventional radiologists are fellowship trained and are adeptly skilled in performing a variety of interventional oncology procedures, vascular and vein interventions, and hepatic focused interventional procedures, along with many other exams to increase patients’ comfort and quality of life.
